The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday cleared the way to arrest of Awami League MP from Tangail-3 Amanur Rahman Rana and his brother Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti in the freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
The SC scraped a High Court (HC) order that on July 14 directed the ruling party MP and his brother to surrender before the lower court and ordered the law enforcers not to harass or arrest them in two weeks within the case.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the government against the HC order. Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul told reporters that there is no legal bar to arrest Amanur and Shahidur in the Faruk murder case following the SC order.
