A crane drive and his helper died from electrocution while two others received burn injuries in the incident in the city’s Sarulia area on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Md Masud Chowdhury, 40, a crane driver, and his helper Md Sabuj, 30.
The incident took place when they were unloading some machineries from a truck at Sarulia Bazaar of Demra at around 3:30 pm.
At on stage, as the hoist block of the crane come in contract with a snapped and live electric wire, both the driver and his helper were severely injured from electric shock.
Shahabuddin, owner of the crane, and another person also received burn injuries as they were trying to rescue Masud and Sabuj, said sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The injured were first taken to a local hospital from where Masud and Sabuj were rushed to DMCH where the doctor pronounced them dead at around 4:55 pm.
The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue.
