The government will continue the ban on social media until the Home Ministry gives positive note about the security concern around the country.
State Minister for Telecom Tarana Halim came up with the remark on Saturday while addressing a discussion on "Device and its role in National Security" organised by Telecom Reporters' Network Bangladesh at a city hotel.
The State Minister said, 'Selected social networking sites, including Facebook, will remain closed till it will be considered necessary in the interest of public safety.'
"We are monitoring the activities of users who are using social media in alterative way. Besides the small number of users logging now, so they are supervised well than usual. The bandwidth speed for using social media in alternative way is downed low. As a result the miscreant group cannot be organized using those media," She added.
Tarana urged students, those who are major users of social media websites, to stay compatible with the state's decision for national security issues.
Tarana expressed her satisfaction with the registration process of SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards and announced new drive on registration of handset from May next year.
