Thousands of sports organisers, sportsmen and sports lovers gathered at the main gate of MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong to protest the misbehaviour with national cricketer Tamim Iqbal during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match in Mirpur on Monday.
Owner of Sylhet Super Stars Azizul Islam reportedly used abusive language with Chittagong Vikings captain Tamim Iqbal prior to the BPL match between two teams at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium as Tamim raised objection against two illegal foreign cricketers fielded by Sylhet team.
Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), the players' body, on Tuesday, also condemned the alleged abuse of Tamim, who was seen exchanging hot words with Tamim.
Addressing the protest meeting, general secretary of Chittagong Divisional Sports Association and former BCB Director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir said, "we are very much shocked for misbehaviour and audacity by Sylhet SS owner Azizul Islam with famed cricketer Tamim"
This kind of misbehaviour is a punitive offense under BCB and country's exiting law, if the concerned authority will not take action against him, then he will be declared "persona-non-grata" during BPL match in Chittagong.
Vice President of Chittagong Divisional Sports Association and president of the protest meeting Alhaj Ali Abbas said, "We will give a memorandum to BCB President Nazmul Hasan and BCB vice-president and CCC Mayor AJM Nasiruddin for exemplary punishment of Azizul Islam."
Earlier, Technical committee chairman of BPL Jalal Yunus has said they have referred Tamim Iqbal's allegations of abuse during the match between Sylhet Superstars and Chittagong Vikings to the BCB's disciplinary committee, with due process set to begin this week.    ?UNB
