Land Minister Shamsur Rahaman Sherif on Saturday said the government will soon finalise the draft of Agricultural Land Protection and Land Use Act for protecting the country's arable land and ensuring proper use of those.
"The law is going to be finalised soon for protection and proper use of cultivable lands," he said while addressing a function at IDEB Bhaban in Ishwardi of Pabna, said a ministry's handout.
The programme was held marking the Public Engineers' Day and the 45th founding anniversary of the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB).
"If the law is enacted, the use of lands as per whims will be reduced. And the farmers can cultivate and harvest crops smoothly that will also enable the country to export foods after attaining self-sufficiency," he said.
Chaired by IDEB Ishwardi Unit President Anisur Rahman, the function was, among others, addressed by DIG of Rajshahi Range Iqbal Bahar and Director General of Sugarcane Research Institute Dr Md Khalilur Rahman, Engineer AKM Mahiuddin and Ishwardi Upazila Chairman Mukhlesur Rahman.
The minister also participated in a colourful rally brought out marking the founding anniversary.
