10 hurt in Kantajew Temple blasts; OC withdrawn

Dinajpur: Ten people were injured as three crude bombs went off under the canopy of a ‘jatra’ show on the premises of Kantajew Temple in Kaharole upazila here early Saturday.

The blasts took place around 1:15am when people were watching a ‘jatra’ show arranged on the temple premises on the occasion of Rash Mela, leaving 10 people injured, said police super Ruhul Amin.

Six of the injured -- Mokaddes, 23, of Damudarpur in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur; Sadhon, 35, of Sadar upazila in Nilphamari; Jabbar, 28, and Saidur, 27, of Dashmael in Kaharole upazila; Romakanto, 22, and Mithu, 30, of Birganj upazila of Dinajpur, were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, police arrested five people for their suspected involvement in the incident.

Besides, the officer-in-charge of Kaharole Police Station Abdul Mazid has been withdrawn for negligence of duty over the incident.

The police super said the OC was withdrawn on Saturday evening for administrative reason.
