Anil Kapoor is a global actor today having displayed his craft in the west in movies like Mission Impossible 4, Slumdog Millionaire and TV series 24 in its 8th season. But his path to Hollywood was not exactly a bed of roses for many poked fun at the actor initially for trying his luck there.
"People made fun of me. Everybody said, 'Nahi yaar aisa kuch hota nahi hai. But I said, 'Hoga aur isse bada hoga." said Anil Kapoor.
Today as many Indian actors are taking on bigger roles in Hollywood with Deepika Padukone being the latest, Anil Kapoor feels this is just the beginning.
"This is just the beginning. Just wait for the real excitement to begin. I have said it in the past and will say it again, this is just the tip of the iceberg," said Anil Kapoor on the sidelines of a DVD launch.
Agreeing with Anil was Kabir Bedi who said, "Nothing gives me greater happiness than seeing actors like Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra going to the west because these are things we fought for. In those days it was quite common for white actors to be painted brown and given Asian roles. we fought many battles over this and raised awareness. Today, Indian actors will make far greater impact abroad than ever before."
