Rayad Emrit hold his nerve to guide the Barisal Bulls with his majestic knock in under pressure to outshined Dhaka Dynamites by two wickets with two balls to spare in the last over thriller in the league stage last match of BPL-3 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Asked to bat first, Dhaka Dynamites scored a moderate 136 for six. Chasing the target Barisal Bulls were skidded from the beginning losing six wickets for only 59 runs it seemed the match was gone away from Bulls.
Then Emrit took the responsibility and steered the Bulls adding 43 runs off 21 balls with Nikhil Dutta for the ninth wicket stand.
In the last two overs Barisal needed 20 runs. In the 19th over bowled by Farhad, Emrit and Nikhil took 10 runs with Emrit hit a four.
Mohammad Irfan came to bowl the last over. Emrit hit a four in the first ball and took a single in the next ball to ink his fifty. Dutta gave back the strike to Emrit with four needed in three balls. Emirt smashed a four through the point to seal the win for Barisal.
Emrit was unbeaten with 54 runs off 28 balls with six fours and two sixes. Alongside Mehedi Maruf contributed 37 runs while Nikhil made unbeaten nine runs.
Emrit was adjudged as the man of the match for his splendid knock and hauling two wickets.
Earlier, Dhaka sent a new pair of Hafeez and Farhad to open the innings. The duo did well adding 42 runs. Sohag Gazi bowled Farhad (19) to break the pair. Nikhil Dutta who was playing his first match, hauled the wicket of Hafeez (25).
After a while, Nikhil struck again and grabbed the wickets of Nasir (14) and Waller (10). Losing four wickets for 74 runs Dhaka was in under pressure. Mosaddek and Doeschate then guided the Dynamites to pile up a fightable total. The duo assisted 34 runs for the fifth wicket pair. Rayad Emrit broke the pair departing Doeschate (22).
Mosaddek was unbeaten with team highest of 30 runs.
It was the last match of the league stage of this BPL. In the second last match, Comilla routed Sylhet and solved the all equations. With the defeat Sylhet was eliminated while it confirmed Dhaka to qualify for the last four.
As both the teams have confirmed their last four berths before the match, they gave rest to their four players each. Dhaka fielded without, skipper Sangakkara, Mustafiz, Abul Hasan and Yasir Shaha while Barisal gave rest to Gayle, Mohammad Sami, Taijul and Kevon Cooper.
