Internationally renowned flutist Ustasd Azizul Islam's solo recital session was organised at the National Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city on January 23. Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor graced the occasion as chief guest. Azizul Islam enthralled the audience for almost three hours with his mastery over Raag and Gats. The event was organised by the US based Doyel Academy.
The evening got blended with Alaap, Jore and Jhala as Azizul Islam performed along the supporting tunes of Jhaptaal, Setar and Tintaal. He drew conclusion with Bhatiyali rhythms after rendering short but captivating Raags.
Swaroop Hossain and Md Jahangir Hossain accompanied the artiste on Tabla and Tanpura respectively. In the final stage during Bhatiyali renditions Md Harun Rashid played the "Dotara" to give vibes to Azizul's mesmerising melody.
Ustad Azizul Islam has been practicing classical music with flute for the last half of the century.
He takes a purist approach to cultivating music and does not allow any modern changes to bother his work. He took his lessons from Ustad Belayet Ali Khan and Bahadur Khan. He recently enchanted the Dover Lane Music Conference held in Kolkata, India with his magic through flute. Azizul performs regularly in Canada, Singapore, United States, Australia and many other countries.
