Gazipur boiler blast death toll now 9

Gazipur: Another person who received burn injuries in a boiler explosion at a tyre factory here on Saturday died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday, taking the death toll from the incident to nine.

Swadhin Forazi, 26, a rickshaw-puller and son of late Siraj Forazi of Gorail village in Islampur of Jamalpur district, succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH Burn Unit around 5pm, said sources at the deputy commissioner’s office.

Swadhin along with his family members used to live in Bhadun area of Pubail.

The district administration provided Tk 10,000 to each family of the deceased for burial.

Meanwhile, a case was filed against eight people, including factory owner Iman Uddin, with Joydebpur Police Station in this connection.

Six people, including a female schoolteacher, were burned to death and 10 others suffered injuries as a fire broke out after a boiler exploded at the factory ‘Gazipur Smart Metal and Chemical Ltd’ that made fuel oil from tyre at Pubail in Gazipur on Statuary.

Of them, three injured were admitted to the burn unit of DMCH where Abdul Kader, 50, died on Sunday while Kamal on Tuesday and Forazi succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
