Habiganj clash leaves 2 dead

Habiganj- Two people were killed and 20 others injured in a clash between two rival groups at Khatura village in Madhabpur upazila on Wednesday evening.

Officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Police Station Mollah Monir Hossain said Khalilur Rahman Member and Fazal Miah of the village had long been at loggerheads over establishing their control in the locality.

As a sequel to the enmity, their supporters, equipped with local weapons, locked into a clash around 6:30pm today.

A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left Rokeya Begum, 22, dead on the spot and 21 people injured.

Of the injured, Jalil Miah, 35, died on the way to hospital.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.

The injured were taken to different hospitals.
