Chittagong: After 37 years of her departure, Sutana Van Der List, a Bangladeshi origin Dutch national, has returned home to reconnect with lost relatives.

Sutana along with her Dutch husband and daughter arrived on February 1.

She has been searching for her blood links at her birth place in Dohazari village of Chandaish upazila, said Md Ismail Hossain, a former official of an organisation named ‘Snobe Bangladesh’, at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club. Sutana was also present at the press conference.

Sutana was born in 1975 at Dohazari and brought up by her paternal grandparents till the age of five.

In 1979, Sutana’s grandmother, Rahima Khatun, unconditionally handed her over to a Dutch couple who adopted her. After that Sutana went to the Netherlands with her Dutch parents and grew up in the northwestern European country.

Sutana can remember this much and she has with her an affidavit, signed by a magistrate, mentioning the address of her ancestors. The affidavit also mentioned that her Bangladeshi parents were dead.

She is expected to stay in Bangladesh till February 12 to continue her search for the lost links.
