East West University (EWU) Agro Industrial Club arranged a seminar on "Agricultural Economy and Potential Bangladesh" at EWU campus at Aftabnagar in the capital on February 3, said a press release.
The Chief Guest of the seminar was Agricultural Minister, Begum Matia Chowdhury.
She said after being self-sufficient in food production now was the time to turn on cash crop production and that change would benefit to farmers. She said with the continuation of the increasing food production, the government now had given more emphasis on Genetically Modified (GM) food crops production.
Begum Matia Chowdhury added that there was no harmful evidence found on GM food crops. After increasing the capacity of electricity production of the country, agricultural product preservation system would be also ensured, she said on the seminar.
Special guests of the seminar were Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Advisor for the International Affairs to the Prime Minister and M. Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman, ACI Limited.
The program was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank.
Professor Dr. M M Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU delivered the opening speech at the seminar. Members of Board Trustees, Deans of faculties, Chairpersons of different departments, faculty members, administrative officers and a large number of students of the university were also present on the occasion.
