Bangladesh National Women Football Team will take on host India in their fourth match in women football of the South Asian Games today (Saturday) at 4:30pm at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong in India.
Yet the Bengal Tigress had already confirmed the bronze, still they had a chance to clinch the silver at least if they could win the match at this point.
Bangladesh women were under pressure from the very beginning. Host rescheduled the fixture in the end for which women got no time to take rest after reaching India.
As a result, Bangladesh women booters had suffered a 3-0 defeat to Nepal in the opener which made the calculation bit uncomfortable for them.
The women were successful to defeat the Lankan women by 2-1 in the second match and blanked Maldives by 2-0 in the third match to confirm the bronze.
The tournament format was changed due to absence of Afghanistan this year and it is now played in league system. That way, the two top teams will play the final.
If the Bengal Tigress can win or at least draw the match today, they will qualify for the final.
So far, Bangladesh won two of the three matches and collected three points to place second. India, on the other hand, are on the third place with five points after one win and two draws.
Nepal are leading the table with seven points following two wins and one draw.
Team skipper Sabina Khatun was confident of a good result in the match against India.
She and her mates had light practice on Friday before the match.
Sabina said, "We have coped up with the cold weather in here and everyone in the team are in good spirit."
The skipper also informed that Bangladesh custodian Sabina, who has been suffering from backbone injury, may not play the match today. Instead custodian Rowshan Ara may play in her place.
In the last edition of the SA Games football in 2010, Bangladesh women team clinched bronze.
