The authorities of a private hospital in the city have allegedly handed over a dead female child to parents instead of a newborn boy yesterday morning.
A woman reportedly delivered a male child at Fertility Services and Training Centre located in Mohammadpur area on Tuesday morning but the hospital authority allegedly handed over the parents, a dead female child in its place, Shamsul Islam, husband of the victim alleged.
The hospital authority rejected the allegation and termed the incident as 'sheer misunderstanding.'
Shamsul Islam told journalists that his wife, Parveen Akhter gave birth to a male child through a normal delivery within 15 minutes after she had been admitted to the hospital at about 8 am.
A nurse, accompanied by two women informed me about the birth outside the delivery room.
"After hearing the news, I went outside the hospital to purchase the prescribed medicines for my wife and son. But when I returned I was surprised to see a dead female child beside my wife," said Shamsul Islam. "A few days ago, an ultrasonography test report of my wife confirmed the foetus as a baby boy. I believe that the hospital authority has replaced my son with a dead female child," he added.
Dr Moniruzzaman Siddique, Director of the hospital, rejected the allegation and termed the incident as a misunderstanding and persisted that the woman had delivered a dead female neonatal.
Hafiz Al Faruque, Assistant Commissioner of the Mohammadpur Zone of police, visited the hospital immediately after the incident, but declined to comment on the matter.
