Ashraf for regular party council

Kishoreganj: Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Friday underscored the need for holding party’s council on a regular basis, saying it gives new life to the party.

“If the council is not held regularly, how those had been involved in the politics of Chhatra League and Jubo League in the past will come at the helm of Awami League,” he said.

Syed Ashraf, also LGRD minister, was speaking as the chief guest at the triennial council of the district unit Awami League at old stadium in the afternoon.

Presided over by district AL acting president Qamrul Ahsan Shahjahan, the council was addressed, among others, by AL Joint Secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam and former Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzak.

At the council, Advocate Qamrul Ahsan Shahjahan was elected president and MA Afzal general secretary of the district Awami League.

The new president and the general secretary were asked to announce the full committee of the unit within a month.
