MEHEPUR, Feb 20: The experts at a training programme informed that Bangladesh is one of the 90 mango-producing countries in the world.
The taste of Meherpur mango is better than that of other parts of the country, they opined saying that it has bright prospect to be exported in order to earn foreign
currency.
A day-long training programme on "Quarantine mango production and export affairs to European Union Affairs" was held in the district town on Friday.
The training was jointly organised by Bangladesh Fruit Vegetable Agri-Products Export Association (BFVAPEA) and Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) with S M Mustafizur Rahman, deputy director of DAE, in the chair.
The training programme was formally inaugurated by Shafiqul Islam, deputy commissioner, as chief guest where Hafizur Rahman, deputy director, Plant Quarantine, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, and Manjurul Islam, advisor, BFVAPEA, were present as special guests.
The Senior Scientific Officer Dr. Shafiqul Islam of BFVAPEA imparted training to the mango growers of three upazilas through power point presentation. It was moderated by Mofakharul Islam and Kamaruzzaman, DAE officers of Mujibnagar and Sadar upazilas respectively.
A host of mango growers and the agricultural officers of the three upazilas of the district took part in the training programme.
