
Established during East-Pakistan period in 1961, with a mission to tone up the quality and standard of higher agricultural education and to produce first-rate agriculturists, agricultural scientists and researchers for shouldering the responsibilities of agricultural development of the region. After the liberation war, its teachers and students played a center role to provide the food security of 16 corers people of the nation.
Today, on February 23, this legendary university is going to have its much waited 7th convocation. The programme will begin around 10 am at university auditorium.
President Md Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of university, will preside over the convocation ceremony while Jamilur Reza Choudhury, engineer, researcher, scientist & Vice-chancellor of University of Asia Pacific will deliver the convocation speech. Among others Principal Motior Rahaman, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) and Dr Ali Akbar, Vice-Chancellor of the university will remain present on the occasion.
Over 4,808 graduates will be conferred with degrees at the convocation ceremony. Graduates are all in a festive mood to celebrate the colorful event. Hundreds of new graduates who got registered for the formal farewell programme were seen capturing group and individual photos by giving a final touch to their beloved academia. "Only a graduate can feel the ecstasy of convocation, which I am feeling after getting my academic costumes," said Imrul Kayes Mirza Kiran, newly-graduated student.
Meanwhile, the BAU authorities had completed distribution of convocation gowns and had also organized a rehearsal for the convocation at agriculture faculty corridor on Sunday afternoon.
On the occasion of the convocation, the entire campus of the varsity has been decorated colorfully.
Meanwhile, the 6th convocation of BAU was held in 2011 in which more than 12,533 graduates have been enrolled.
BAU proctor AKM Zakir Hossain said tight security measures have been taken to make the program a success.
VC's thought: We feel proud to arrange much waited 7th convocation. It is our duty to produce first-rate agriculturists, agricultural scientists and researchers for developing our agri-sector. We hope that our graduates play important role in agricultural development and keep the wolf of rural people.
