UP polls: Aspirants lobbying at Shoulpara union

SHARIATPUR, Feb 24: A wide-ranging lobbying continues by the aspirants for obtaining nominations from their political parties for the position of 'Chairman' in the upcoming Shoulpara union parishad (UP) election in Sadar upazila of the district.
Though the area is historically famous as the vote bank of the 'Boat' symbol,  Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party (JP) and some other parties  are also active to keep their candidates in the race.
Md Ibrahim Khan, organising secretary of Sadar upazila and former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Shoulpara union, M Jahangir Alam Khan, incumbent chairman of the UP, Freedom Fighter (FF) Mahbubur Razzak, general secretary (acting) of the upazila AL, Alamgir Hossain Khan and some local AL leaders are lobbing   with  the party high-ups  for getting their nomination to contest in the 'Chairman' position.
Anwar Akhan, general secretary of the union BNP, and Sumon Akhan, convener of Juba Dal of the union, are trying to get the party support to vie in the race. 
Several aspirants from the AL might contest in the election as independent candidates, according to field sources.
Arif Mir, president of the union Juba League and Salam Howlader, president of Ward No. 9 of AL placed demand to the high command of their party to nominate Ibrahim as chairman candidate considering his active role during the BNP-Jamaat regime followed by last caretaker government tenure.
Anwar Sardar, former member of the union, Kamrul Madbar, vice-president of the union Juba League, and Kawser Madbar and Jamal Madbar, president and general secretary respectively of the union BCL have also supported Ibrahim.
Anwar Sardar said, "I am vice-president of the union AL and my son Biplob is organising secretary of the union Juba League. We consider Ibrahim as a perfect candidate for the post of Chairman."
  Shajahan Madbar, general secretary of Shoulpara union unit of AL, told The Daily Observer that they were looking for a candidate who is well-educated and maturated in politics.
When contacted, Ibrahim, who passed LLB Honours and LLM, told this correspondent that he was trying to get his party support and hoped to get so.
Mahbubur Razzak said that if I get the party nomination, I will contest. "In the case of losing nomination, I will work for the man whom the party will back."
Jahangir Alam Khan said, "By the grace of Allah, I can confidently say that I will get the party nomination."
