UP member murder case
Five held in Sylhet

Sylhet:  Five people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder case of Union Parishad (UP) member Dudu Mia in Kanaighat upazila here on Sunday.

The arrestees were identified as Jahangir Alam, 27, son of Abdul Jalil, Kabir Uddin, 24, son of Abdul Haque, Kawser Ahmed, 28, son of Safar Ali, Selim Uddin, 26, son of Abdul Wahid and Gias Uddin, 27, son of Abdul Malek.

Source said police, in separate drives, nabbed the arrestees from difference places in the upazila on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday evening, deceased Dudu Mia’s brother Abul Kalam filed a murder case with the Kanaighat Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat Police Station Humayan Kabir said the arrestees would be sent to jail soon.

They were trying to arrest the other accused, OC added.

Dudu Mia, Laxmipasha Union Parishad member and also son of Tafazzul Ali, was killed in a clash that took place between two villagers following an argument over eave-teasing at Kawrighar village in the upazila on Friday afternoon.
