Regardless of the 28-minute lead, Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal DC suffered a frustrating defeat to Malaysia champions Selangor FA by 4-3 margin on Tuesday in their third Group-E match of AFC Cup-2016 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka .
Malaysia giants came very near to take the lead in the second minute of the match. They put three attempts in a row and Jamal custodian Sahidul Alam Sohel and defenders cleared the attempt successfully.
Yet the visitors had maximum control over the ball in the first 25 minutes till the host suddenly opened the net with their Gambian midfielder Landing Darboe fired the net with a tremendous 30-yeard shot. Landing received the ball from local striker Yeamin Munna before taking the shot.
The ardent Selangor boys kept attacking to level the margin and piled up pressure on the opponents then. They were able to change the fate in the 39th minute when their Liberian striker Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh headed down the ball into the net.
Jamal custodian Sahidul saved the team from a certain goal for a corner at the eleventh hour of the first half. Selangor midfielder Muhammad Nazmi Faiz Bin Mansor cut the ball back towards the post and Sahidul fisted the ball out of the field.
Landing Darboe of Jamal was about to take second lead in the 48th minute as he entered the box quickly and took a shot but it was fisted by the opponent custodian Norazlan Bin Razali timely.
Instead of Jamal, Selangor boys went ahead in the 53rd minute when midfielder Gopinathan Ramachandra tapped a square pass of Patrick into the net.
The Bengal Yellows admirably equalised the margin with a 61-minute header of striker Emeka Darlington Onuoha who converted a shot of Landing Darboe.
Jamal skipper Wedson Anselme took the second lead in the following minute with a grounder following a thru pass of Landing.
The sorrowful matter for the host was that they conceded a goal again in the 82nd minute due to apparent disappointing performance of custodian Sahidul.
It was Selangor's Argentine striker Mauro Andres Olivi who scored the fourth goal for the team and nailed the coffin of Bangladesh champions Sheikh Jamal.
Yet the host failed to win the match, it was an enjoyable match indeed and can be said that the fans really missed it who had not come to the stadium to witness the match.
Earlier, Bengal Yellows suffered a 0-4 defeat to Tampines Rovers of Singapore in their away match and conceded a 0-2 goals defeat to Ceres La Salle FC of the Philippines at home.
Now, they will face Selangor FA in their next meet on April 12 at the Shah Alam Stadium in Malaysia.
