Court orders confiscation of KCC mayor’s property

Khulna: A court here on Wednesday asked the authorities concerned to confiscate property of six people, including suspended mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mohammad Maniruzzaman, in a case filed for attacking police in 2013.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate MLB Mesbah Uddin Ahmed passed the order against the accused for not complying with its earlier order to appear before it.

The other accused in the case are Sheikh Gausul Azam Gaus, councillor from ward-20, KM Humayun Kabir, councillor from ward-27, Shaheen, Gaus and Azizul Islam Farazi, former president of Khulna city unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.

According to the case statement, some policemen were injured in a clash with the leaders and activists of 20-party alliance during their blockade programme at Powerhouse intersection in the city on November 11, 2013.

Anukul Chandra Ghosh, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, filed a case against 45 BNP-Jamaat men in this connection.

Taposh Kumar Pal, sub-inspector of the police station submitted a charge-sheet against 52 people, including KCC mayor Mohammad Maniruzzaman, on April 30, 2015.

On November 22, 2015, a court issued warrants for the arrest of the six in connection with the case.

On November 2, 2015, the government suspended BNP-backed Khulna City Corporation mayor Moniruzzaman Moni as he was charged in two violence cases.
