Lead indices plunged on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the dominant small investors continued to sell shares to catch gains, dealers said.
DSEX, the prime index of DSE, fell 29.05 points or 0.65 per cent to 4,381.16 while the DS30 index, comprising blue chips dipped 15.73 points or 0.94 per cent to 1,658.15and the Shariah Index DSES lost 7.39 points or 0.69 per cent to 1,060.79 at the close of the session.
At the CSE its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, shedding 57.26 points to finish at 8,186.08 points as losers beat gainers 152 to 54 with 24 remaining unchanged. The port city bourse traded 12.54 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Taka 284 million.
On contrast the DSE the turnover rose to Tk 4.14 billion, up 28.17 per cent higher than the previous day's Tk 3.23 billion.
The losers led over gainers strongly as out of 317 issues traded, 191 closed lower, 86 higher and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
The newly listed Dragon Sweater and Spinning dominated turnover charts with shares worth Tk 329 million changing hands followed by Keya Cosmetics, BSRM, Emerald Oil and Square Pharma.
Libra Infusion was the day's best performer, posting a rise of 8.73 per cent while Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills was the worst loser, slumping by 8.33 per cent.
