The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order expressing concern over the violence and killings in the recently held Union Parishad (UP) elections has decided to control such incidents in the upcoming elections.
"The overall law and order situation of the country has been improved, however, some incidents of violence and killing have occurred during the UP elections," Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, told the journalists on Thursday after a meeting at Secretariat.
The committee members including LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon and State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu and senior officials of different Ministries and law enforcing agencies attended the meeting.
The minister said an action plan has been chalked out to control the violence and incidents of killing in the upcoming UP elections. "Such incidents had been occurred due to shortage of police and other law enforcement agencies," he added.
He said the meeting also discussed about the illegal drug trading and smuggling through roads and waterways of the bordering areas. The law enforcement agencies have been kept alert on the issue.
About militant financing and money laundering, the Minister said, "The incidents have also been decreased in the country due to the government's immediate steps. The government is also working to recover the money of Bangladesh Bank stolen recently by the hackers."
"Almost one-fifth of the heist money has been already recovered and the remaining will be recovered soon," he assured quoting the Bangladesh Bank Governor's assurance given in the meeting.
Regarding the Banshkhali incident, he said the incident was not one sided. Both the law enforcers and people are responsible for the occurrence. Extended probe of the incident is underway. The government will take necessary action against the responsible persons," he assured.
