BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said BNP was not frustrated despite misrule of this government that already made  4.5 lakh party leaders and activists accused in many cases.

"About 500 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies have been killed in the last few years of the Awami League government’s rule," he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a protest programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh arranged by
Amar Desh Paribar, marking the three years of jailing of Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman.

UNB adds :“Over our 4.5 lakh leaders and activists have also been made accused in thousands of cases. Despite that, we’re not frustrated as we know the misrule of this regime will surely end someday,” he said expressing hope.

Mirza Fakhrul also said the ruling Awami League cannot tolerate alternative views as it has been suffering from an ‘ego syndrome’.

“Awami League has long been suffering from an ‘ego syndrome’. They can’t take the opinions of others as they don’t do the politics of
tolerance,” he said.

He renewed BNP chairperson’s call for forging a national consensus to get rid of misrule and restore democracy in the country. “Surely, we’ve made some mistakes in the past, but we’ve to move forward correcting those for restoration of democracy. We’ve to unite our
party men alongside creating a national unity to have democracy restored.”

Mentioning that the country’s people have a long history of wining fight against misrule, the BNP leader said the way people achieved
victory against Pakistanis’ misrule, the same way they will win the fight against the current regime’s misrule.

The BNP leader alleged Mahmudur Rahman has long bee kept in jail for his position in favour of truth.

He demanded the government immediately release him from jail withdrawing all the ‘false cases’ filed against him.
