The High Court
on Wednesday issued a rule upon the government asking as to why legal action
should not be taken against local MP Salim Osman and others involved in publicly humiliating the head
teacher of a Narayangnaj school.An HC bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the suo moto rule in the afternoon. The court also asked the Home Secretary, the IGP, the Narayanganj DC and Police Super, the UNO of Bandar upazila and the OC of local police station have been asked to give their explanation within next two weeks. Besides, the court asked the Narayanganj Superintendent of Police to submit a report by three days on what lawful measures have been taken against those involved in the incident. Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain stood for the state. Shyamal Kanti Bhakta of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar Upazila was rescued by police after he was beaten up and made to do sit-ups holding his ears in the presence of local MP AKM Salim Osman on May 13 for allegedly making statements criticising religion.. When such act drew criticism from conscious quarters, the school committee sacked its head teacher. LY
