N?ganj Teacher's Humiliation
Though humiliation of a Narayanganj school teacher by a lawmaker of Jatiya Party, the main opposition in parliament, has drawn flak and protests countrywide, JP policymakers are still silent over the issue.
However, according to a party insider, they keep eyes on what punitive measures the government takes against Selim Osman, MP, for his role in manhandling Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, head teacher of Piyar Sattar Latif High School at Bandar in Narayanganj.
"If the government takes any harsh decision to punish  Selim Osman, JP may take similar decision against him," he said.
The party man also said otherwise, it would not take any decision willingly against  the controversial MP, who is known as one of the main financiers of JP. It may lose political strength in Narayanganj area if JP takes any punitive measure against the influential Osman family member, the party thinks.
Selim is also a business leader.
There are huge allegations against the Osman family members, which include control of the district's underworld and crime, involvement with student Toki murder, Narayanganj seven-murder and humiliation of Bhakta.
JP Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader did not respond to several phone calls of this correspondent for his comment on the issue.
Party's Co-chairman GM Qader said they have heard the incident. At first, they have heard that a Narayanganj MP committed such an incident. They thought that it might be Shamim Osman - younger brother of Selim Osman - as usually allegations come against him.
"But, finally we have heard the name of Shamim's brother Selim Osman. Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has also heard the matter and is observing the situation. He will take final decision against the party MP," he added.
He said the party will take its decision after examining the government probe report, submitted to the Education Minister on Thursday. They are trying to get the report.
But, preferring anonymity a leader of the party said they are not planning to take any action immediately. Considering overall situation, the party will take its final decision. The matter of financial support in the party and its political strength in Narayanganj will also be considered, he added.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Medical College Hospital authority on Saturday shifted teacher Shyamal to its 'Cabin-107' from the ward he was admitted to for treatment initially.
Shyamal's wife Sabita Bhakta, who is accompanying him, said that the physicians of the hospital have already checked his physical conditions thoroughly. The teacher is now suffering from mental problem and several head and physical complications.
Health Minister Mohammad will visit the teacher at DMCH this (Sunday) afternoon. He will observe his physical conditions and the treatment provided by the DMCH doctors.
