IGP asks police force to keep alert against extortion

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Tuesday instructed the police officials to remain alert to stop all kinds of extortions during the month of the holy Ramadan as well as the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

“Show ‘zero tolerance’ against extortionists during Ramadan and on the eve of Eid.” The IGP said at a meeting at the Police headquarters.

Chaired by the IGP, the meeting was attended by Additional IGP (Admin) of the Police headquarters Md Mukhlesur Rahman, Additional IGP of CID Sheikh Hemayet Hossain, Additional IGP of Railway Range Md Abul Kashem, Addiotional IGP of APBn Md Siddiqur Rahman, all commissioners of metropolitan police, including DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, DIGs of rang police, Highway Police, Industrial Police, River Police and Tourist Police, superintendents of police of different districts.

The IGP ordered the police officers to perform their duties with professionalism and efficiency so that people can observe the month of holy Ramadan and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr peacefully.

“Don’t stop vehicle on the highways in the name of searching without specific allegation,” he said

He also ordered the police officers to ensure welfare of the force.

Meeting sources said the police chief emphasized on carrying out drives against contaminated food.

He has instructed to conduct mobile court drives against formalin and chemical treated fruits, informed the sources.

The meeting decided to take special security measures to prevent extortion, mugging and criminal activities across the country.

Members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed to railway stations, bus and launch terminals to check pick-pocketing and activities of ‘Aggyan party and Malam party’, said Senior Information officer of the Police headquarters AKM Kamrul Ahsan.

He said control rooms will be set up at the Police headquarters and all the districts to coordinate overall law and order situation during Ramadan and Eid celebrations.
