BHOLA, May 27: A youth was killed, and 20 others were injured in a clash between police and villagers following arrest of an accused at Janata bazaar under Sadar upazila here on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Noman, 18, son of Jamadar of the village.
Quoting locals, police said a team of police, after arresting Mizanur Rahman, an accused in a case, started beating him mercilessly at Janata bazaar at night. As locals tried to resist the law enforcers, police took the arrested to the police camp.
Later the mob went to the camp to release Mizanur, but a clash ensued between them and police.
Police opened fire to the crowd, leaving Noman dead on the spot and a woman and a child injured with bullets.
Following the incident, the agitated people blocked the Janata bazaar road by putting logs.
Assistant Super-intendent of Police (Sadar circle) Mamun-or-Rashid said the mob broke into the police camp and tried to snatch arms from them.
Police could not recover the body of Noman from the villagers, he added.
