
A meeting was held at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Dhaka to focus on the occasion. Renowned agricultural scientist of the country, Dr Kazi M Bodrudduza presided over thye meeting while Chairman of the Supreme Seed Company, Md Masum was present as chief guest and Executive Chairman of BARC, Dr Abul Kalam Azad as special guest.
Dr Biswas is directly involved in developing several stress tolerant high yielding rice varieties adaptable to the unfavorable conditions of the country. At present, he is one of the senior scientists in National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in Bangladesh. He has about 50 research articles published in different prestigious journals home and abroad.
Dr Jiban Krishna Biswa joined Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) on December 29 in 2013 as its Director General. Prior to this position, Dr Biswas was the Director of Admin and Common Service and Director of Research as well as the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Plant Physiology Division of BRRI. He began his career as a scientific officer of the institute in 1983 and devotedly performed his duties in different positions over the past 30 years.
He obtained his B.Sc (Ag) degree in 1981 from Bangladesh Agricultural College and M.Sc degree in 1988 from the Bangladesh Agricultural University. He did his PhD degree in 1994 from the Central Luzon State University of Philippines. Earlier, he worked as a JSPS, IRRI and SEARCA fellow.
