Expelled, extortionists, drug dealers lobbying with high-ups

The new committee of Jagananth University (JnU) chapter Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling party Awami League (AL), is likely to be formed soon as the tenure of its incumbent body was ended more than three years ago, sources concerned said. BCL central General Secretary Jakir Hossain told The Daily Observer that they had already started the process of forming a new committee in the BCL tenure-ended units including that of JnU. "As the tenure of JnU BCL had been ended, a new body will be formed soon," he confirmed. Centering the issue, aspirants of the JnU BCL unit had started lobbying with the high-ups along with present and former BCL leaders to grab their desired posts in the new committee. However among the aspirants, extortionists, expelled, drug dealers and even convicted murderers, who might secure places in the vital posts of the new committee, are in the high level in respect of lobbying with the powerful quarters, JnU sources said. During their political life on the campus, the desired candidates were alleged to have also many faults including alleged involvement in admission test forgery and sexual harassment of female students. According to the sources, the incumbent committee was formed on October 3 in 2012 with FM Shariful Islam and SM Sirazul Islam as President and General Secretary respectively for the next one year term; but the committee remained more than three years, thanks to the apathy to its indoors. Due to the delay in formation of the committee, many subgroups were formed in the present committee with one chief selecting from each group seeking now for vital posts in the ensuing committee. The aspirants as President post in the new committee are-SM Saifullah Ibn Ahmed Sumon, Saidur Rahman Jowel, Suranjan Ghosh, Kamrul Islam, Toriqul Islam, Ashraful Islam, while aspirants as General Secretary are-Harun-ur-Rashid, Kamrul Islam Rasel, Tanvir Rahman Khan and Johir Rayhan Agun. Here, all of the aspirants, at present, are holding different posts of the JnU BCL incumbent body. A section of JnU BCL leaders, in condition of anonymity, expressed their dissatisfaction over not forming the committee for a long time on the campus. They hoped that the new committee should be formed with bold and dedicated activists. If not followed, the BCL will have to lose its lone years' image and glory, they warned. Contacted, JnU BCL President FM Shariful Islam and General Secretary SM Sirazul Islam said that they had recommended to the central body over forming the new committee with dedicated and fresh active activists; however, they had no interference in forming the new body, they added.
