Sir,
Recently, it was reported on World No Tobacco Day that approximately 1.3 billion people are regular smokers worldwide, and every day between 8,200 and 9,900 young people start smoking. Reportedly, 1,000 to 1,200 teenagers start smoking every day.
Although smoking in public is a punishable offence in Bangladesh, due to non-execution of the law people are seen smoking everywhere. According to the latest research, more than 80 percent adults begin smoking before they turn 18. Children under the age of 18 say that it is easy to buy tobacco products, which is a cause for concern for parents. For the betterment of the youth, government should impose a ban on the sale of all types of tobacco products. Smoking is one of the main causes of lung and mouth cancer.
So I request the authorities concerned to look into this issue and take necessary measures for discouraging smoking habit among youths and save lives from this lethal habit.
