Prices of essentials increase in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, May 19: A vested quarter is increasing the prices of all essentials here during Ramadan.
As a result, the traders are selling goods on their wish.
The same goods are being sold at different prices.
While talking with a customer Dr. Abdur Razzak Alam at Sirajganj Borobazar, he said that the negligence of authority concerned is responsible for the situation.
He said the price of brinjal was Tk 40 per kg before Ramadan, which is now Tk 60. The price of Sonali chicken was Tk 240 to 260 per kg, but from Thursday the traders started to sell it at Tk 300.
"We know that the price of essential items will increase in Ramadan, but we do not take any early measures," he added.
Mohammad Iqbal of Hossainpur Mahalla said there is no control in the market. The fish which was sold at Tk 250 per kg is now being sold at Tk 320. Besides, the prices of all vegetables have increased at Tk 5 to 20 per kg.
He also said the low income group people like us have to fall in big problem if the prices of essentials rise.
Not only chicken, fish and vegetables, the prices of all essentials have increased. Chickpea, the main item of Ramadan, is selling at Tk 75 which was Tk 70 earlier. The price of sugar has increased and now it is selling at Tk 56 per kg. Per kg Aman paddy puffed rice is selling at Tk 75 to 90, while other puffed rice are being sold at Tk 65 to 80. Bitter gourd and lady's finger were sold at Tk 45 per kg, but now these are being sold at Tk 60. Onion which was Tk 40 per kg is now being sold at Tk 45.
The price of local ginger has increased by Tk 20 and is being sold at Tk 100 per kg. But the price of potato has not increased. Per kg Holland variety potato is Tk 20 and red potato is Tk 25. Per kg middle-size rui fish is Tk 200 to 240 and local stinging catfish is Tk 1,000.
The price of meat went out of the reach of people. Beef is selling at Tk 440 instead of Tk 420, mutton at Tk 750 instead of Tk 700, and local chicken at Tk 360 instead of Tk 320.
Concerned people think that the price will increase further in the middle of Ramadan.
Mohammad Maznu Sheikh, a small trader at Borobazar informed the price of all kinds of raw materials has increased by Tk 2 to 15. The price will be increase further, he also said.
Retail trader Mohammad Moslem said the supply of raw materials is less than the demand; so but the price is unstable.
Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Moniurzzaman said mobile court will raid the markets to check the excess price and food adulteration during Ramadan. All the upazila nirbahi officers were given directions to conduct mobile courts.
