Repeal of tax on pvt universities demanded

A section of students of private universities have demanded the repeal of 15 percent tax on the income of private colleges and universities, which is proposed in the budget of FY 2021-22.
Besides, the students made five more demands and warned of strict action if the demands are not implemented by June 10.
They made the demand at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Friday. Several students from various private universities in the capital were present at the press conference organized under the banner ‘No VAT on education’.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) should scrutinize the income and expenditure of private universities.
Uniform tuition fee policy for all private universities.
Introduce of uniform grade system for all private universities.
Increase allocation in research sector.
University students should be given incentives to ensure their academic life.
European University of Bangladesh student Mukta Rezwan read out a written statement at the press conference.
Shaon Biswas of Stamford University Bangladesh, Shahriar Apurba of Eastern University, Shahjahan Shanta of University of South Asia, Rakibul Hasan of World University of Bangladesh, Md. Aman of Asha University of Bangladesh and Pritam Fakhir Green University Bangladesh, among others, were present at the press conference.
