Those who did communal politics carried out Cumilla incident: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said those who did the communal politics carried out the incident of Cumilla to destroy the communal harmony.

“Those, who are doing communal politics, all are in BNP’s alliance and they want to turn the country into a Taliban state and Islamic Republic. There are many leaders in BNP who didn’t want Bangladesh’s independence. The persons who are doing communal politics, carried out the heinous crimes in Cumilla,” he said, BSS reports.

The minister made the comments while replying to a query at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in Dhaka.

Hasan said it must be revealed that who were behind the incident. Their motive is clear that why they did a video clip viral in social media, he added.

He said the peace and discipline are stable in the country and it is going ahead amid the COVID 19 pandemic. “The epidemic is almost under control. So that, they (vested quarters) didn’t reach to common people through their different political statements. For this, BNP-Jamaat and their fundamentalists’ collaborators carried out the incident for their political interest,” he added.

Earlier, the minister said the position of Bangladesh in the Global Hunger Index 2021 among 116 qualifying countries is 75th while the position of the neighbouring India is 98th and Pakistan is 88th. The per head farming land here is the lowest and Bangladesh is the most densely populated country, he added.

He said Bangladesh is third in producing vegetables, rice and fish of fresh water and seventh in producing potato under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is also a surprise to the World Food Organization which has been possible under the supervision of the Premier, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

The minister said the country has been exporting agri-products worth over one billion dollar. The government has a plan to increase the export to two billion and more in phases.

He said Bangladesh is also ahead one step in the rule of law index. “We want constructive criticism. But, I would like to ask a question to them who criticize the government everyday on the screen of television that will they congratulate the government after the achievements,” he added.
