'We don't want any more death like Sheikh Russel's one': Anisul

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said that they don't want to witness any more death like Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's youngest son Sheikh Russel as they always want peace and justice.

"We won't allow anybody to ruin any more talent like Sheikh Russel," he said while addressing as the chief guest the 'Concert for Justice' arranged by ICT Division marking the Sheikh Russel Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka.

The minister said the country had witnessed a culture of impunity for long after the assassination of Bangabandhu. The clique of killers had imposed Indemnity Ordinance, which is dubbed as black law, to give immunity from legal action to the persons involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members including child Sheikh Russel, he said.

Anisul said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina scrapped the black law after assuming power in 1996 and began the trial of killers of Bangabandhu in general tribunal. But the path of the trial was not smooth by any means as seven justices of the High Court had felt embarrassed to hear the appeal, he said.

The minister said Ziaur Rahman recruited killers in Bangladesh missions abroad to save them and that is why it has not been possible so far to execute the court verdict of death sentence of several killers.

The killers wherever they stayed fugitive will be brought back to home definitely to execute the court verdict, he said.

He said Sheikh Russel had left many things in his short life which are encouraging and should be followed.

State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak chaired the function while senior journalist Ajay Dasgupta also spoke on the occasion.
