A Chattogram Jubo League leader who filed a case against Dhaka University professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury and two others, will not continue the case anymore.
Plaintiff Nazim Uddin, former joint convener of Chattogram South Jubo League, submitted a petition to the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Reza's court on Sunday expressing his unwillingness to continue the case against Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury and two others. The court later accepted the plaintiff's petition.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nazim Uddin filed a complaint registered case to a Chattogram magistrate court against Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury, novelist Rashed Rouf and writer Nesar Ahmed for allegedly making derogatory comments in an article about Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The court took the complaint into cognizance on that day and was set to deliver its further order on the matter on Sunday.
"Mentioning that there were some information errors in the case petition, plaintiff Nazim pleaded to the court to discontinue the case," plaintiff's lawyer Mojibur Rahman said.
According to the plaintiff's lawyer, a book was published on March 17, 2020 from Chattogram Academy, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The case was filed for defaming Bangabandhu in an article in the book. The article is titled 'Secret Enemy of Sheikh Mujib,' written by Prof Sirajul Islam.
According to the plaintiff, Professor Sirajul Islam's article reads, "Sheikh Mujib before 1971 and Sheikh Mujib after 1971 is not one and the same; it is an unpleasant truth." Another line reads: "Moral decline ushers in his physical downfall" (Noitik Poton-e Tar Doihik Poton Deke Aane).
For that, the plaintiff had moved to the court as a politically conscious person for the defamation of Bangabandhu in multiple lines of the article.
