The government has decided to administer booster shots of Covid-19 vaccine to people aged over 60, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said.

The date from which the booster shots will be given will be decided after discussion, he added.

“It had been decided that those above the age of 60, who were seriously ill, would be given a booster dose. It is also being given in many countries,” said Zahid Maleque while briefing at his ministry in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He briefed reporters after a meeting on taking necessary steps to control the new variant of corona virus Omicron.

The minister further said the government has taken a plan to give booster dose of coronavirus vaccine to the people above 60 adding that, “Several neighboring countries, including India, are giving booster doses. We are also working on the issue. It will be decided soon.”

Zahid Maleque said they have not yet taken any decision about the school or college amid the ongoing concern created for new Covid variant Omicron.

“No decision has been taken about the school, college. Everything will run as usual they are running now. It has been advised to increase the activities and not to extend the days till the next decision is taken,” he said.

In addition, everyone on the train-bus has been asked to wear a mask, said the health minister adding that, “If the health rules are not followed during the public movement, fines will be slapped under the mobile court.”

Zahid Maleque said, “Letters will be sent to each district to restrict various social events, political events, religious ceremonies.”

“If someone comes from abroad, they will be monitored so that they cannot go to anyone’s house. If necessary, arrangements will be made to set flags to their homes,” the minister said.

Mohammad Sahidullah, chairman of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Coronavirus, and senior officials from various ministries, departments and agencies were present in the meeting.
