Murder of maid at Gulshan: Couple make confession, sent to jail

A couple have submitted a statement to court on Sunday confessing their involvement in maidservant Pervin alias Fancy Akter murder at Niketan in the city's Gulshan.

Arrested houseowner Syed Jashimul Hasan and housewife Syeda Samina Hasan submitted statements confessing their crimes in Pervin alias Fancy Akter murder case.
Inspector Tariqul Islam of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced both the accused before the court on Sunday. Mentioning that the accused had agreed voluntarily to submit confessional statements, he prayed to record the statements seperately.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheque Imam recorded the statement of Syed Jashimul Hasan under Section 164, while metropolitan magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury recored the statement of another accused Samina Hasan. Later, they were sent to jail.

Earlier at about 11:00am, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) convened a press conference at the PBI Dhaka Metro (North) office at 60 Feet at Agargaon.

It was told at the press conference that Turag police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Diabari's Jhauban area under Turag police station in the evening of December 2 last. The PBI got confimed using information technology that it was maid Pervin's body. Later, the PBI contacted with the victim's relatives including husband Mominul at their village home in Dinajpur and called them in Dhaka.

PBI's special police super Jahangir Alam told at the press conference that Turag police recovered the body of the woman from Diabari Jhaubon on December 2. Later, PBI started investigating about her at the directive of DIG Banaj Kumar Majumder.

"In face of acute poverty, Pervin came to Dhaka from her village home at Alokdihi Sarkarpara at Chirir Bandar in Dinajpur district with her husband Mominul two years ago. She took the job of maidservant at Flat No. A-1, House-15, Road-6, Block-E, Gulshan Niketan. Her husband started working as a rickshawpuller in Dhaka. But, Pervin was never allowed to meet her husband. She used to be kept confined. Being failed to meet his wife due to confining her at the flat, husband Mominul filed a general diary (GD) with Gulshan Police Station in September last. Later, he got the opportunity to meet his wife and went to the flat to meet her. Mominul had left for his village home in Dinajpur district in October," Jahangir Alam said.

It was also told that housewife Samina Hasan had suspected that her husband Syed Jashimul Hasan had an illicit relationship with the maid. Because of it, she hit Pervin with a stick at one stage of quarreling in the morning on December 1. Pervin became unconcious and fell on the floor. Then Samina Hasan got onto the chest of Pervin and broke her breastbones. Being confirmed about the death, Samina had planned to conceal the body in consultation with her husband. Then they took the body to Diabari's Jhauban area in their private car with the help of their driver Ramjan Ali and dumped the body there.

Quoting the victim's husband Mominul, the PBI said Pervin used to work at the flat at Tk 7,000 per month, but the housewife used to send her family Tk 1,000 only per month through bKash.

On Saturday, Mominul filed a murder case against the accused couple with Turag Police Station.
