Three killed, six injured in Nilphamari train crash


Three female workers were crushed and six others injured under the wheels of a train at a rail crossing in Nilphamari's Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sayera Begum, 33, Shefali Akter, 28, and Romana Akter, 35, residents of Dhanipara area under Sonarai Union in the upazila. All of them were the workers of Uttara EPZ in the district.
Witnesses said a train smashed a battery-run auto-rickshaw, carrying nine people, while the vehicle was crossing Daroyani rail line at about 7:00am, leaving one dead on the spot and eight others injured.

Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries on way to Nilphamari General Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Nilphamari Sadar Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Amir Ali confirmed the matter.
