Rajshahi Hospital closes Covid unit

Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) authorities have shut down its Covid-19 unit as the infection from the deadly virus declined sharply in Rajshahi region.

The hospital director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani said the closed the Covid-19 unit of the hospital on Thursday.

“In last few days, only two to three patients with Covid-19 symptoms had taken treatment in the unit and returned home after being cured on May 12,” he said.

“At present, there is no such Covid-19 patient. If any patients with corona symptoms come to hospital then they would be referred to the district Infectious Disease Hospital.”

In March 2020, the RMCH authorities opened the Covid unit with more than 454 beds with oxygen facilities to fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

Shamim Yazdani said they faced a big trouble to handle peak periods of the pandemic but fortunately the situation is normal at present.
