VOA journo Amir Khasru’s mother found dead in Pirojpur



The body of the mothern of Voice of America (VOA)'s Bangladesh correspondent Amir Khasrur was recovered by police from her home in Pirojpur district town.
 
Sitara Halim, a resident of CI Para of the town and wife of Abdur Halim Howladar, was recovered at about 10:00am on Monday.

She used to live alone at the house, said additional superintendent of Pirojpur Police Molla Azad.

Family alleged that she was kept lying inside the bedroom after strangled sometime on Sunday night.
 
Sitara Halim was the wife of late Professor Abdul Halim Howlader, former principal of Pirojpur Government Suhrawardy College.
 
Salma Arzu, daughter of Sitara Halim, said her mother lived alone on the first floor of their house. She last talked to her mother on Sunday night.

A paint worker named Abdul Kuddus went the house in the morning and knocked the door of Sitara to resume renovation work at the residence. Getting no response from inside, he informed the matter to the tenant of the building on the ground floor who in turn informed police.

Salma Arju, eldest daughter of Sitara Halim, said she rushed to the house soon along with her husband after receiving a phone call from the tenant on the ground floor that her mother's body was lying on the floor.

She said, "I made a phone call to my mother on Sunday night. My mother at that time told me that she will perform the prayers. I heard the death news in the morning and came to the house. I saw a mark of injury on her neck. The almirah in the house was broken and the goods were lying scattered on the floor. Killers might have strangled her to death and the stole goods from the house."

Later, police came and took the body to Pirojpur District Hospital for postmortem.

"A saline pipe was found in the house. Miscreants might have strangled her with that pipe."

 
Police suspected that the woman might have been strangled.
 
Khasru, who lives in Dhaka, left for Pirojpur as soon as he heard the news.
