6,000 mitres of current nets seized in Rangamati

A mobile court on Tuesday seized 6,000 mitres of contraband current nets from a shop at Kaptai upazila in Rangamati district.

The mobile court, led by the upazila nirbahi officer and executive magistrate Muntasir Jahan, fined Tk 5,000 to the shop owner for illegally selling those nets.

He said the mobile court conducted a raid at Alauddin Rashidia Store in  Upstream Jettyghat area at around 3:30 pm and burnt the nets in public.

The value of the nets is estimated Tk 40,000, he added.

Kaptai senior upazila fisheries officer Arifur Rahman, upazila nirbahi oficer office super Md. Sirajul Islam and a team of Kaptai Project Police Outpost were present at that time.
