8 held with weapons while preparing for robbery

Police arrested eight people along with lethal weapons from Tongi area in Gazipur city on Wednesday night.

The arrested are Khokon Miah, 20, Babu, 16, Al Amin, 16, Manik Miah, 18, Ajay Bishwas, 18, Zahid, 16, Shanto, 13, Shahadat, 13.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) conducted a drive in Modhumita road area at night and arrested them when they were preparing for a robbery, said GMP assistant commissioner Abu Sayem Nayan.
He said seven machetes were seized from their possessions.

They will be sent to a court on Thursday afternoon after filing a case against the arrested people, the GMP official added.
