The ruling Awami League has nominated Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia as the mayoral candidate in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) election.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the parliamentary nomination board and local government representatives' nomination board of the Awami League at the prime minister's official residence Ganabhaban, a press release said on Wednesday.

The press release said at the directive of Awami League Local Government Public Representative Nomination Board's president and party president Sheikh Hasina, the party general secretary Obaidul Quader has announced Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia as the AL nominated candidate in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation elections.

Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia is  a former MP and Awami League Central Executive Committee member.

The election to the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) will be held on December 27. The last date for submission of the nomination papers is November 29. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on December 1, while the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is December 8.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in Rangpur City Corporation and Pourasava elections. The voting will start at 8:00am and continue till 4:30pm. Closed-circuit television cameras will be used in the polling centres during the elections.

It may be mentioned that the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC), comprising 33 wards, was formed on June 28, 2012. On December 20 of that year, AL candidate Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu was elected as the mayor in the first RCC election. In the second RCC election held on December 21, 2017, Jatiya Party candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa was elected as the mayor. This year the RCC election is going to be held for the third time.

At present, the population of this city is about 10 lakh, while the number of voters is more than 4 lakh.
