A security guard was killed after being crushed by a covered van on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the capital's Gulistan.
He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 5 am on Monday.
The victim was Shahabuddin, 35, hailed from Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria district. He was a member of the elite security force in charge of the flyover.
Witnesses said Shahabuddin was standing next to the toll plaza of Gulistan section of Hanif flyover around 3:30 am. At that time, the covered van crushed him while paying toll, leaving him seriously injured.
He was immediately rescued and taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Wari Police Station sub-inspector Biswajit Sarkar said Banshal police seized the covered van from the spot and arrested the driver.
