Motorcyclist killed in Khagrachari road accident

A young man was killed after being hit by a pick-up van on Khagrachari-Dhaka regional highway at Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari district on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place at Joutho khamar area of the upazila at around 9.45 am.
The deceased was identified as Moharaj, 23, son of Kuddus Miah, a resident of Rosulpur area under Ward No-9 of the municipality.

According to witnesses, Moharaj was going towards Guimara area riding on the motorbike. When he reached Joutho Khamar area, a vegetable-laden pick-up van hit him from the opposite direction, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rushed him to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Being informed, police rushed there and seized the truck and motorcycle however the driver of the truck managed to flee the scene.

The body was sent to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal steps are under process in this regard, the OC added.
