Child raped at Dhaka Udyan: Rapists pick her from Iqbal Road

An autorickshaw driver has been arrested in connection with the rape of a child at Dhaka Udyan laguna stand under Adabar Police Station in the capital.

The 38-year-old Selim was arrested by Adabar police conducting raid at a garage at Khalpar Hajipara Road area under Badda Police Station after Tuesday midnight for his alleged involvement in the rape of a nine-year old child.
Police also seized a CNG-run autorickshaw which was used to pick the girl child from Iqbal Road area under Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Tejgaon Disvision's deputy commissioner (DC) HM Azimul Huque stated it at his office at Shyamoli early Wednesday afternoon.

DC Azimul Huq said the CNG-run autorickshaw driver Selim and his associate lured the girl child from Iqbal Road area at night on March 14 last. Examining the CCTV footage, a suspicious CNG was identified. Besides, the footages of as many as 23 closed-circuit cameras at Nobodoy Housing, Shia Masjid, Tajmahal Road and Iqbal Road were examined and the CNG was identified.

Then the location of the aurickshaw driver was identified using the help of technology. Then driver Selim was arrested. But, his accomplice is absconding. His name and address have been found. Police are trying to nab him.

Azimul Huq said, "The girl child was roaming on the road quarreling with her sister on that day. She came out with her elder sister in the evening on March 14 last. Then they went to Town Hall area at about 9:00pm. Staying some time over there, she had an altercation with her elder sister. Then her her elder sister left the place with her friends leaving her sister behind. The child then went towards Iqbal Road alone. At about 11:30pm, CNG driver Selim and his accomplice noticed the child and they lured her to their autorickshaw."

"When the child tried shouting, they press her mouth amd took her to Dhaka Udyan laguna stand. First, the absconding accused forcibly raped the child and then Selim raped her. Then the fugitive accused raped the child again."

Police said the child fell sick critically due to repeated rape by two persons and started bleeding. Then the child was released and she walked to her house through Shia Masjid area. She then met her elder sister and she rushed her to Suhrawardy Hospital immediately. Witnessing her critical condition, the on-duty doctor referred the child to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The child is now undergoing treatment at One-Stop Crisis Centre of the DMCH.
