Afsarul Amin MP passes away


Chittagong-10 (Double Mooring-Halishahar-Khulsi-Katalganj) lawmaker and former minister Dr Md Afsarul Amin died at a hospital in the capital on Friday afternoon. He was 71.
 
Dr Afsarul Amin, who had been suffering from lung cancer for the last two years. His lung cancer was detected in January 2020. Since then he had been taking treatment regularly but could not be recovered. Subsequently, he was taken to life support on Friday morning at Square Hospital in Dhaka and he died there around 4:00pm.
 
Family sources said the body of the veteran politician will be taken to Chittagong on Friday night. He will be buried on Saturday, but his family is yet to decide about the time and place of the burial.
 
The dedicated politician left behind his wife Dr Quamrun Nesa, two sons, friends and well-wishers, and political fellows to mourn his death.

Dr Afsarul Amin is the vice-president of Chattogram City Awami League (AL). He was the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Education. He contested five consecutive parliamentary elections in Chattogram-10 constituency with the 'Boat' symbol from 1996 to 2018.
 
Dr Afsarul Amin was the Minister for Shipping. Later, he became the Minister for Primary and Mass Education.

The death of the veteran political stalwart of AL in Chattogram cast a pall of gloom in political, cultural and social arenas elsewhere in the city and district.
 
Meanwhile, leaders of AL Chattogram city, Chattogram district's AL south and units and their front organisations condoled the death of Dr Afsarul Amin.
 
In their condolence messages, they paid homage to the memory of the deceased, prayed eternal peace of the departed soul and recalled his long-dedicated political in Chattogram.
