Dr Yunus sued in Rangpur

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founding chairman of Grameen Krishi Foundation, along with five others has been accused in a case filed with Rangpur Labour Court.

Grameen Krishi Foundation senior farm manager (Retired) Farukul Islam filed the case under the Labour Act on Tuesday. The court set September 26 for the trial.

According to the complaint, a compensation of Tk 9.75 lakh has been sought from the accused for gratuity and earned leave for Farukul Islam.
Shamim Al Mamun, lawyer of the the plaintiff, said Dr. Yunus coerced Farukul Islam into retirement denying to pay the compensation. A total of 1,200 other employees were similarly coerced into retirement under similar circumstances.

The five other accused in the case are the foundation chairman Noor Jahan Begum, acting managing director Shamsud Doha, and board members Imamus Sultan, Ratan Kumar Nag, and Shahajan.
